Ready To Hit The Road

At 24 feet long, the Airstream Interstate Grand Tour EXT is smaller than most RVs. It's designed for long excursions by a couple, but it's the perfect road trip vehicle for a family of four.

Truck Stop

At rest stops, we fell in with the big rigs rather than fighting congestion on the car side of the plaza. But we only stopped to stretch our legs; we could use the bathroom on board.

Driver Comfort

The front driver and passenger seats were incredibly comfortable, with supple leather upholstery and adjustable lumbar support and armrests. It was easy to get up and move around. When parked, the chairs swivel around to face a removable table or work station.

Styling: The Best of Mercedes and Airstream

The Interstate Grand Tour is built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis that's outfitted to Airstream's luxury standards. The silver metallic exterior paint is a modern-day interpretation of Airstream's iconic motor homes.

King Size Bed

When fully extended, the reclining sofa and two dinette chairs make a spacious sleeping space. But seatbelt brackets tend to poke you in the back.

A Luxurious Cabin

The warm interior includes walnut-colored cabinets, Corian countertops and wood laminate floors. The galley includes a sink, microwave and two-burner cooktop. There's even a bathroom and shower on board.

Emphasis on Traveling Comfort

The rear of the cabin includes a reclining sofa and two chairs, and shades for day or nighttime privacy. There are two 22-inch TVs, which run off a propane generator, even while traveling.

Work Space

The driver's seat swivels around to face a pop-up desk for those working vacations. The desk folds down and out of sight.

Seating For Two

The front seats swivel around to face a removable table, which stores easily when the vehicle is under way.

Open Air

A double screen door (and another remote-operated screen in the rear) let in plenty of fresh air.

Cargo Space

Luggage and other items are easily stored behind and under the rear seat. A remote-controlled retractable screen allows plenty of air to circulate.

Galley Kitchen

The galley includes a pull-out drawer microwave, a two-burner stovetop and a stainless steel sink. There's storage for dishes, utensils and pots and pans, and the Corian counter top extends another foot if needed.

Retractable Awning

For shelter from the elements, there's a retractable awning. There are also exterior hookups for cable TV and a gas grill, making it perfect for tailgating.

Driver Cockpit

The Airstream Interstate Grand Tour is equipped with all of Mercedes' advanced safety systems, but the controls on the Kenwood entertainment system are frustrating and hard to operate.
